What's the difference between Outback FX and VFX series inverters?
I was looking for an offgrid inverter, particularly Outback Power.
Could you please tell me whether there is an application difference between VFX3524 and FX2524 inverters?
What does "vented" or "sealed" mean?
Comments
As is apparent from the power output, the vented, or VFX units have a couple of advantages:
rated for a higher continuous output
longer AC overload capacity
higher battery charger output
suitable in a hotter climate
This is because they have a fan that's cooling the chassis and power electronics directly to the outside air. The electronics can run cooler and more efficiently.
However, if the inverter is installed in a humid or corrosive area, the sealed unit is the way to go. The sealed FX unit will have generally lower output:
the continuous power rating is lower
reduced AC overload capacity is reduced for durations over 5 seconds
reduced battery charger output
But it will have a longer life since the power electronics are not directly exposed to the atmosphere.

Both units are pretty much identical otherwise. More detail can be found here (click to open).
What does "la" stand for on my outback vfx3524la?
