A homeowner customer came to Davis Electric to add grid-tied storage to their photovoltaic system.
The goal of this PV system changed from a pure grid-tied ground mount for net metering to a retrofit with zero export capacity. In late 2017, Davis Electric installed a 15kW ground mount consisting of JA 330, Unirac DGFT, and (2) SMA 7.7 Sunny Boys. Because of a shift in the homeowner’s rate structure, he requested Davis Electric return to retrofit his grid-tied storage. In late 2018, Davis added the Sunny Boy Storage inverter and LG Chem battery to reduce export on nights and weekends.
“Now that we have done one we could install one in half-day,” explained Nick Gilleland, Director of Solar, at Davis Electric.
The system was just the second Sunny Boy Storage project installed in the United States.
